Leave everyday life behind, grab your favourite hiking boots, and set out for Mt. Schwalbenwand.
It’s been raining cats and dogs – but not anymore. Now it’s finally time to reach the next peak. My human parents know the most beautiful spots around our hotel. Because our region has much more to offer than just ski hotels in Austria. One of my favourite tours takes you to Mt. Schwalbenwand. The hike is super easy and the view absolutely stunning. Good condition is required, however, because you’ll be walking for no less than five hours. Starting point is the Mitterberg restaurant above Thumersbach. The trail leads through a dense forest up to flowering alpine meadows and on to Schützingalm pasture. This is the perfect place for a little breather, before hiking to Maishofen summit cross and then on to Mt. Schwalbenwand. The view from up here: pawsome! The Kaiser Mountains, the Leongang Mountains, the Steinernes Meer plateau, the Hochkönig moutain group, the Hohe Tauern, and Mt. Großglockner are right in front of your eyes. After a little treat, it’s time to head home: over Mt. Schönwieskopf to Schützingalm pasture and from there along the Almstraße road to the parking lot.
